Carbon Nanotubes from Camphor: An Environment-Friendly Nanotechnology
High-purity carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are produced by chemical vapour deposition of camphor, an environment-friendly hydrocarbon. In a small CVD reactor (1-m long and 26mm wide), CVD of 3 g camphor at 650°C for 1 hour yields ~1.62 g MWNTs of diameter ~10 nm with an as-grown purity over 88%; that is, camphor-to-CNT production efficiency is 50%. This is the highest efficiency ever achieved from any...
متن کاملCarbon Nanotubes in Neuro-nanotechnology
Neuro-nanotechnology [2] is an approach that integrates nanoparticles [3] (or nanostructures) into the field of neuroscience in order to both study the structures and functions of the brain and to treat neurological diseases. These technologies include nanoparticles [3] to deliver drugs across the blood-brain barrier, to monitor electrical signals in the brain, and to induce neural signaling in...
متن کاملFunctionalized Carbon Nanotubes Produced by APCVD using Camphor
A simple chemical vapor deposition technique at atmospheric pressure (APCVD) is adopted to synthesize the aligned arrays of functionalized multi-walled carbon nanotubes (AMWCNTs) without using any carrier gas, at 230◦C, 750◦C and 850 ◦C. Camphor (C10H16O) is used as carbon source because this botanical hydrocarbon is chip and abundant which convert the CVD technique to a green method for produc...
متن کاملFast Synthesis of Multilayer Carbon Nanotubes from Camphor Oil as an Energy Storage Material
Among the wide range of renewable energy sources, the ever-increasing demand for electricity storage represents an emerging challenge. Utilizing carbon nanotubes (CNTs) for energy storage is closely being scrutinized due to the promising performance on top of their extraordinary features. In this work, well-aligned multilayer carbon nanotubes were successfully synthesized on a porous silicon (P...
